Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father and mother also happen to be Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County in California when she was 7 years old. They lived in a place without electric power. Television books was her only source of entertainment to pass the time. Eventually, she began to read extensively. At the age of 12 years old, Ryder enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. Lucas, a 1986 film which was her first big role. Ryder was just fifteen when she landed the role. Ryder was bullied at her high school. She hoped acting could bring change. It didn't turn out. But she continued to chase the dreams she had. In 1988, she got her biggest break with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was able to continue her successful parts in a variety of films. In 1993 she won an Oscar Award to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
