Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 into a musically inclined family in Newark New Jersey is the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston as well as John Russell Houston Jr. She's also the cousin of the singer Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney, she began singing with the church choir when she was a young child. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mother in the background vocals for Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978. She went on to provide backing vocals for Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her mother, and also was briefly models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. It was, however, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her standing as one of the most loved performers. While the movie itself and the performance of her in it weren't widely praised the soundtrack album and her cover of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You topped the charts of albums and singles for months and sold 44 million copies all over the globe. The same year, she got married to Bobby Brown who was a previous New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married in the month of March, 1993. About this time her well-documented drug use started and in 1996, Bobbi Kristina Brown had been using drugs on a daily basis.
